The People's Liberation Army Navy (PLAN) Type 903A, also knwon as Fuchi II, is a new class of large comprehensive supply ships designed to support military naval operations far away from China. These ships feature high degree of automation, easy operation, strong adaptability, fast-speed replenishment and high-efficiency support. A flight deck allows operation of a single helicopter. The ship is equipped with two naval guns at the bow. The Type 903A ships have been designed for integration into the maritime mobile taskforce in wartime carrying out underway and mooring replenishment for destroyers and frigates. Besides, these ships accompany the destroyer or frigate taskforce to perform tasks of long-distance navigation and good-will visits in peacetime. Overall, the PLAN deems these ships slow compared to its surface combatant ships and requires larger and faster replenishment vessels to supply its projected aircraft carrier battle groups.
